Our Story

Essex Sight has been supporting blind and visually impaired people since 1920. Our mission is to improve lives through high-quality, practical support services. The charity is led by a Board of Directors, including members with lived experience of sight loss, who meet monthly to guide and oversee our work.

Our Vision

To create a society that is open to, and fully includes, all people with a vision impairment.

Our Community Service: Essex Sight

Based in Colchester, Essex Sight operates eight pop-up Sight Centres across the county, from the Suffolk border to the M25 and out to the coast. Opening times vary from weekly to monthly depending on local demand. Visit our Sight Centres page for full details.

Each centre offers expert advice, useful resources, and one-to-one support with reading, paperwork, and everyday challenges. Home visits are also available for those with limited mobility, helping individuals remain independent in their own homes.

Our Eye Clinic Liaison Officer works within eye departments and low vision clinics in North Essex hospitals, providing support to patients and their families at key stages of their sight loss journey.
