Advice & Support
Our team provides expert guidance on a wide range of topics:

Help navigating local, regional, and national resources: things like benefits, transport, or social activities.

Demonstrations of specialist equipment such as magnifiers, useful equipment around the house and tailored lighting solutions.

Technology support: whether it’s discovering hidden features on your smartphone (like voice commands), learning to use smart devices like Amazon Echo, or exploring accessible apps and software.

If we can’t demonstrate an item, we’ll do our best to put you in touch with the manufacturer.
Eye Clinic Support
Our qualified Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) offers both emotional and practical support at eye clinic settings:
- Based at the Eye Clinic in Colchester Hospital, our ECLO helps patients come to terms with diagnoses and offer signposting, emotional care, and registration advice.
- They liaise with medical teams and social care services, provide home visits for those unable to attend clinics, and guide patients to useful community services.
Community Sight Centres
Our welcoming sight centres across Essex are friendly spaces offering:
- Advice, demonstrations of equipment, and peer support.
- Help reading mail, filling out forms, and connecting you with local resources.
- A chance to socialise and attend talks or presentations by healthcare professionals.
These centres are located in places such as Colchester, Chelmsford, Maldon, Halstead, Clacton, Walton-on-the-Naze,and Brentwood.
Home visits
If mobility makes visiting a centre difficult, our staff can arrange a home visit to:
- Assess your unique environment and daily challenges.
- Suggest and demonstrate simple but impactful adjustments like better lighting, optimising smart TV audio settings, or positioning furniture to reduce trip hazards.
- Showcase helpful gadgets for everyday tasks.
